Business As Usual by 2dforever Business As Usual by 2dforever
2D Forever

This came from a random doodle I did, playing about with shapes. It was a bit weird, but thought I would go with it nether less.

I chose to do some more businessmen, as I think they're great for character. Purely because typically business men lack character. I like to see them doing something out of the norm, and giving them that character that they need. But with this picture, I wanted to point out the uniform ways of being a business-person.

Only a quicky, all comments appreciated

"I chose to do some more businessmen, as I think they're great for character. Purely because typically business men lack character" Business As Usual by ~2dforever somehow manages to be both eerie and quirky at the same time. The odd angle, the dull color, the plays of shapes all make for one brilliant illustration. ( Featured by MPsai )

I really enjoy the angle you depicted this at. My biggest crit would be the anatomy of the ears, actually, on the frontmost character. Something looks too flat about them, I think, and if it weren't for that, the cartoonish nature of their rendering would be way easier for me to accept as a stylistic thing. :) I really love those suits, and the floorboards are great! They remind me of Mr. Burns.

Advanced Critiques Encouraged? Hmm, I'll take up this offer for some crits. ^_^

First things first, the idea and the meaning (not so much the idea seeing you said this came from a doodle) are amazing. The uniform character of the businessman. Absolutely well observed! (Well, China's Chairman Mao appeared with other world leaders in no less than a tracksuit outfit so there's an exception.)

The lighting and the coloring are superb and match the mood of the picture. The 'camera' is perfect, and a job well done on the floorboards.

This is +fav material.

Thanks, it's great to see people leaving real comments. Great to see you've agreed with the concept of it too! but nothing bad to say? I could sit and pick holes in it for hours :) But I knew where I went wrong from the start and didn't bother to fix it!

They look like the cool aliens from the SciFi noir "Dark City" with Kiefer Sutherland, William Hurt, and Jennifer Connelly (I think).

They remind me of the Auditors from Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series.

and a bit of Tengu in them as well. With the nose and the forehead structure....

All in all, you've already heard this, but 'tis very nice.

Holy shiskabobs :wow: For a quicky, that's really amazing. I love the whole concept behind it, adding more to business people than normally. I love the character that shows through, and agree with a lot of what the DD description says. The odd angle, the colors, angle and feeling gives off makes it a terrific piece!!! Great job and congrats on the DD!! I honestly can think of no critique..it's so great! :+fav:

At first I thought I was looking through a peephole here. Somehow I think that would have made it creepier -- a group of men all looking like this standing outside your apartment door. The angle's fantastic, though I think I'd have preferred to see more of a body on them. This looks as if it were on a stage the more I think about it, and I think I like that. Good stuff. :)

I like this. It's uberly cool but also quite odd and freakish at the same time...the lighting and the angle are really effective as well.
I think they would look better in black suits rather than brown ones, although brown would work better with the lighting and colour of the floor. I also think they look a little odd without hair (as in going with the stereotype blah blah) but that's just my opinion. and the fact that they're bald also adds to the general weirdness. But yeah, I still really like this. Nice pic. : D

That's cool, entitled to your opinion! The idea was to have black suits in the beginning but as I was colouring I liked the brown, so I stuck with it.

Thanks for the comment - glad you liked it :)

This reminds me A LOT of the character Kollberg, the Blind God, from Matthew Woodring Stover's "Blade of Tyshalle". It's freaky, and he's about as freaky as it's possible to be. If you read the book, or have read it already, you'll know exactly what I mean.

Composition, coloring, shading, and all execution are great. One of your best.

But do you really believe that ALL businessmen are without character or just that most of humanity is without character? If the former, you're watching too much TV/movies where the media always has to invent a protagonist for the "hero" to overcome (Muslim terrorist, Russian spy, insane military commander, greedy businessman, power hungry politician, etc.). One day when you become a businessman (yes, even artists run businesses), you'll understand that they span the spectrum of human character from those with lack of moral compass to those with great integrity.

So, as a moral commentator, you don't make my accuracy list on this one. But as an artist, you're fantastic.

I work alongside business men as I'm a graphic designer in a web company. I watch in awe as these people and those they meet are so flat and fake, It's just a stereotype of businessmen that comes out in a lot of them. I'm not saying all of them lack character, just typically, they do.

Anyway, it's just my perception on things. Thanks for the comment, great to see people are looking further into this image :)

Thank you!
