Sega Rally Championship by 2dforever Sega Rally Championship by 2dforever

I’ve been playing a bit of Dirt3 recently. Wow, is that game boring. So I found myself going back to my comfort zone of arcade racers with Sega Rally and just had to draw something. I had also been watching a lot of Bob Ross (lots of love for Bob), so this was born.

I love the Lakeside course in the original Sega Rally. It had beautiful colours and was one of the more intense races with incredibly thin roads. I wanted to capture that with the two star cars, the Toyota Celica and Lancia Delta (not including the hidden Stratos). I’m 100% all about the Celica here.

Sega sure made some great racers. Past tense sadly. Anyone seen the new Daytona 3? Sigh.

Been playing quite a bit of Sega Rally 1 and 2 myself lately. Still the most fun racer as far as I'm concerned.

100% agreed there! Majority of racing games are dull, but the classic arcade ones still get a big smile out of me :)
Also, yay if you're a Saturn owner!

Hell yeah, you're definitely speaking my language! No updates, DLC, online-only modes... etc etc.
I'll hide in my comfort corner with my old Sega consoles :)

Ahh Sega Rally, that game was so 1994.
That game was an arcade classic.

I did hear about the upcoming "Daytona Championship USA 3" though.

It sold me on the Sega Saturn! (Still a great console...)
I noticed you're 17, so you missed it the first time around - but great to see you know your stuff :)
As for Daytona 3, it doesn't look great... would of been an ok HD reworking, but it's not living up the previous iterations

Yeah, I do not know anything about it until now and before.

I'm okay about Daytona 3. Although I'm also okay about the cheesy, country and 80's music in some racing games.
But I'd honestly prefer Namco's Wangan Midnight (the original, R and Maximum Tune) and SEGA's Initial D considering the music being great.
Like techno (Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune (1, 2, 3, 3DX, 3DX+, 4, 5 & 5DX)) and eurobeat/super eurobeat (Initial D). Yeah, Initial D is a really hard game (So does Battle Gear (1 to 4) and not to be confused with Side by Side (1 & 2)).
Even Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune (1, 2, 3, 3DX, 3DX+, 4, 5 & 5DX) is the only game that I could ever find.
Daytona USA has become a popular Sega Model 2 arcade racing game in everybody's opinion. :)

The original Daytona has always been a super popular game, that's why it's still in some arcades!
Super impressed with your knowledge :)

Yes. And not to be confused with Daytona USA 2 (the original and Power edition).

Dirt3 eh?

Yeah when I played it, I instantly thought at Sega Rally and that old Castrol car as well. Found the game pretty good though, at least on the higher difficulties and with the brake help options turned off. Its big difference without the ai helping you

My judgement is a bit unfair on Dirt specifically. It's more that I don't enjoy simulators, I'd rather it was some crazy arcade game instead :)

Look up RedOut on PC if you liked the WipeOut games ..that game is not like Sega Rally or a classic arcade racer but the track design and speed feeling is that of an good old arcade racer.

Also why was Scud Racer never ported to Dreamcast or another system later?!?

Daytona USA 3 looks meh..wonder if it will get a port even

Yeah, RedOut is on my wishlist! There's been a few WipeOut-like games recently - which is only a good thing :)

Scud race never coming out was a huge disappointment. Same for a number of model 3 games which would of been perfect on the Dreamcast. Apparently there was a version used to demo the Dreamcast, but never the full game.

I'm getting the feeling Daytona 3 is not getting a port. I'm still holding out hopes for the 90s arcade racer, a kickstarter from many years ago... but seems like it has died, it captured these racing games perfectly.

yarr that with the 90 arcade racer project is a long and probably sad-ending story..I was following it too since 3 years.

Ah, then you know the pain! I wish they would just release it in whatever state it's in. Just want to go for a fun drive!
